It’s no secret that I didn’t appreciate No Country for Old Men (NCFOM) as much as the Hollywood machine did. A second viewing has softened my stance. There’s a theoretical plot twist that makes more sense the second time around. The feeling of being lead around by the nose dissipates as well once you know where everything is going. Hmmm…I just flashed on an idea that the Coen Bros maybe used NCFOM as a way to do something in the vein of M. Night Shyalaman…It’s creepy and slow paced with sparse dialog just like The Sixth Sense. There’s a shadowy villain who’s identity is never fully explored. The heroes are at the mercy of of their own inability to see what is right in front of them… Anybody think I have something there???
Anyway, it looks like the Coen Bros are returning to form with Burn After Reading, a dark comedy with a cast of all-stars (Brad Pitt, John Malkovich, George Clooney, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and J.K. Simmons) about normal, stupid people trying to get rich off of a dangerous opportunity to cash in on some other idiot’s misfortune.
