What will happen in Shyamalan’s “The Happening”?

I am not just rooting for The Happening to be a good movie, I am rooting for Shyamalan to surprise not just us but himself.

OK, that is pretentious and condescending of me to write, but I mean it that way. Shyamalan’s done nothing else in his film career than present us with a riddle and tease us that we were fools not to figure out the answer before he revealed it to us. Except for his last film, these riddles have been streamlined, one-joke affairs. Lady In The Water was a convoluted, overly-complicated mess with lots of red herrings and deus ex machina-type solutions.

The trailer for The Happening shows that Shyamalan has adapted the scope of his storytelling to match his budget: it takes place in a variety of locations; NYC, some rural areas, and in between. Will that make it feel fundamentally different from his other films? I hope it helps.

They are known as the Beauty and the Beast Unit, and possibly the Beast Corps. I don’t think these models are voice actors, but I read that they are the mocap actresses. I’m (obviously) trying to learn as little about the game as possible before I play it, but you can read more about these dealy beauties at Joystiq and AssociatedContent.

World to Cat Power: apology accepted

I saw Cat Power in Chicago twice in one night at Schuba’s a few winters ago (2002 or 2003). It was the coldest night of the year and 2 of the weirdest shows I’ve ever seen. In retrospect it is obvious that she was wasted and in serious pain. Glad to see that she is well. This little video interview of her seems like a powerful admission and apology to all her fans. Apology accepted. Keep on keeping one Chan!
