Pascal Renoux, my new favorite photographer

This guy’s nudes are elegant and stripped of artifice. Just a gauzy white curtain covers the walls and floor; sometimes a wall is clothed in crimson. (I must have subliminally channeled his work while taking similar shots…) His models are physically and emotionally fit enough to look like they are pushing the limits of both in each frame. Wow. New photography and painting

Synthetic Desert EcosystemMy friend Kathryn Gritt’s MFA photography thesis is online. Very interesting shots. She has a way of making time slow down, drawing you into the scenario she’s photographed and asking you to stay a while.

Take a look at these paintings by one Jessalyn Haggenjos too.

Too much trouble keeping MT running has lead me to outsource DM to WordPress.com. This will also allow me to consolidate my hosting. I will be playing with design and features for quite sometime. Maybe even find a way to turn a profit….er, actually gotta break even first.

Inspiration/intimidation

“What the World Eats” in TIME magazine…

My friend Noel sent me this link to a photojournalism piece on TIME.com comparing weekly food purchases around the globe. It is an excerpt from “Hungry Planet” by Peter Menzel and Faith D’Aluisio. Probably won’t be a shock that people in advanced industrial countries consume a huge diversity of packaged products. Seeing those products all at once is eye-opening — and so is the sparsity of what is consumed in a week in poorer countries.

This is so beautiful that it is obscene

NSFW - Another gem from Clayton James Cubitt’s The Siege (Nerve.com members only). Do not follow the link below unless you are at home in private. The title should clue you in to what you are about to see (sea?):

New movies in the pipes (you’re welcome Mr. Goldsman)

This December, catch Will Smith in I am Legend — the movie based on the classic sci-fi novella by the prolific screenwriter Richard Matheson. It was adapted for the screen with the help of Hollywood powerhouse, Akiva Goldsman. Looks like Goldsman is moving away from writing to just producing with 7 or 8 new projects announced:

When the Wind Blows - Genetically engineered flying children escape from their lab and are hunted by wolf-men. Based on a James Patterson novel.

The Cure - A TV pilot about “medical activists [who] get care to those who need it most, by any means necessary.” Directed by Danny Cannon. (What a name!)

Tonight, He Comes - A superhero who’s reputation has tarnished gets a publicist then has an affair with his wife…Wait, what!? Will Smith stars.

Eddie Dickens and the Awful End - Based on a children’s book about an orphan by Philip Ardagh.

Maximum Ride - Looks like a double entry for “When the Wind Blows”.

Conan the Barbarian - ‘Nuff said.

Black House - A retired homicide detective must delve into his past to thwart a killer from a parallel universe.

The Losers - A special ops team targeted for assassination by their own government swears revenge on the CIA. Sounds a bit like the A-Team, but what a cool name!

Circuit City to change name to Terror Thwarters

As much as I hate to admit it, I gotta give Danny Bonaduce credit for that joke.

Fort Dix terror suspects are indicted

“inspired by . . . al Qaeda, a foreign terrorist organization” and were plotting an “armed paramilitary attack” on Fort Dix. The six were arrested following a 16-month investigation launched after a clerk at a Circuit City contacted police about a video that two customers wanted transferred to a DVD.

I really don’t think the circumstances of this “terror bust” should inspire the confidence in the anti-terror elements of our government that the media seems to think it does. “16-month investigation“!??!?!?!?!
