Life immitates Life Aquatic…

Dubbed the “Sea Orbiter”, this proposed ocean-going marine biology study platform bears s resemblance to the one owned by the villain in 2004’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou by Wes Anderson. Jeff Goldblum played Alistair Hennessey, Zissou’s much better-funded archrival, and (of course) Bill Murray played Steve Zissou. Late in the show, Zissou’s crew hijacks and ransacks one of Hennessey’s well-appointed scientific outposts. It was a while ago that I last saw it, though, so the details are sketchy…It was the diagram that made the paratactic connection for me. A full-sized model of Zissou’s main vessel was constructed in an elaborate cross-section for the movie, allowing for a funny, comic-book-style sequence of shots showing a typical day in the life aquatic.
