Bill Murray and others from The Royal Tenenbaums team up once again with Wes Anderson to make The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, a comedy about a Jacques-Cousteau-like ocean explorer (Murray). Anderson’s co-writer this time is Noah Baumbach, the sadly unprolific genius behind 1995’s Kicking and Screaming. I can hardly wait.
Painter Leon Golub has died at 82 of complications after surgery. His mural-sized paintings brought scenes of violence, torture, war, and racism to life in museums and galleries across the world. Golub’s style is immediately recognizable; he used solvent to dissolve thick layers of bold color, then scraped the paint off with knives, leaving a pitted, mottled effect. In 1951 he married artist Nancy Spero, whose own work explores and challenges the role of women in culture throughout time. In 1988 Kartemquin Films released a documentary called GOLUB, chronicling his life, politics and artistic process. A sequel covering his last years is now in post-production.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone will soon bring us Team America: World Police, a farce about the War on Terrorism that looks a lot like the old Thunderbirds Are Go! because it uses marionette puppets instead of actors.
